New Škoda Fabia Confirmed, But performance Variant Unlikely
A new Škoda Fabia has been spotted testing in the Czech Republic, signaling the imminent arrival of the fourth generation of the popular supermini. Though, despite enthusiast anticipation, sources indicate a high-performance “RS” variant is not currently planned. This news follows a decade since the last Fabia RS, leaving fans of the sporty hatchback possibly disappointed.
The previous Fabia RS,discontinued in 2014,was offered as both a hatchback and station wagon,powered by a 132 kW turbocharged four-cylinder engine paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch DSG transmission. The original RS, launched in 2003, uniquely featured a 96 kW 1.9-liter turbocharged diesel engine, achieving a 0-100 km/h time of approximately 7 seconds despite official figures of 9.6 seconds. While the third generation Fabia lacked a full RS model, a limited Edition R5 – of which 300 units were allocated too the Czech republic – offered a 92 kW turbocharged petrol engine and a 0-100 km/h time of 8.8 seconds.
The discontinuation of the RS badge for the third generation and the current outlook for the fourth suggest Škoda is prioritizing other aspects of the Fabia’s advancement,potentially focusing on fuel efficiency,technology,and broader market appeal.
