New Sanford Health Clinic and Lewis Drug Break Ground in Sioux Falls
Sanford Health and Lewis Drug broke ground earlier this month on a nearly 30,000-square-foot combined clinic and retail pharmacy in southeast Sioux Falls, with doors scheduled to open to patients in August 2028, siouxfalls.business reported.
The facility will sit within the Founder’s Crossing development from the Good Samaritan Society, an organization operating as part of Sanford Health.
Services and Facilities at the Veterans Parkway Location
The Sanford 57th & Veterans Parkway Clinic will house acute care, family medicine, pediatrics, and obstetrics and gynecology services. Project plans detail 34 exam rooms, five treatment rooms, radiology, therapy, and walk-in lab services.
While the footprint mirrors Sanford’s existing development at Madison Street and Veterans Parkway, president and CEO of Sanford Sioux Falls Andy Munce noted that the new southeast location carries specific upgrades. Advanced imaging tools, including CT and ultrasound services alongside standard X-ray capabilities, will bolster diagnostic operations on-site.
A Lewis Drug store will attach directly to the clinic building. That retail space will feature an internal Sanford Health Equip location. Lewis Drug integrated into Sanford Health as a business unit a year before construction began.
Integration with Founder’s Crossing and Regional Growth
Direct connections will link the clinic and the Lewis Drug store to the Good Samaritan – Founder’s Crossing campus. Residents moving into the independent living villas, apartments, memory care suites, short-term rehabilitation spaces, and long-term care center will have direct access to medical care, prescriptions, and home medical equipment.
Sanford acquired the land 15 to 20 years ago. Munce described the project as a rooftop strategy designed to bring healthcare delivery closer to expanding regional populations as the outer areas of the city develop. The acute care offering is intended to relieve patient volume pressure at the nearest existing facility located at 26th Street and Sycamore Avenue.
Veterans Parkway Expansion Coincides with Medical Facility Construction
TSP serves as the architect for the project, and Fiegen Construction acts as the general contractor. Construction activity kicked off earlier this month.
The broader transportation network surrounding the site is undergoing major municipal expansion. Veterans Parkway is projected to extend from Interstate 90 down to Western Avenue by late fall of 2028. A final segment connecting Western Avenue to Interstate 29 is scheduled for completion by 2029.
What remains unanswered is whether municipal road projects will match the exact completion pace of the medical facility, or if local traffic patterns will experience congestion during the final months before the facility opens in August 2028.
