Antioquia Government & Indeportes Antioquia Invest in El Peñol’s Sports & Community Wellbeing
The Antioquia Departmental Government, through Indeportes Antioquia, alongside the municipality of El Peñol, have collectively invested in revitalizing sports infrastructure and promoting community wellbeing in the rural village of La Plateau. A newly remodeled sports plate was recently delivered, representing a total investment of 209 million 247 thousand 38 pesos.
the project was a collaborative effort: Inter-administrative Agreement with Indortes antioquia contributed 63 million 374 thousand 594 pesos,while Indeportes Antioquia directly funded 87 million 293 thousand 729 pesos. The municipality of El Peñol supplemented these funds with 58 million 578 thousand 715 pesos from its own resources.
During the delivery ceremony, Governor Andrés Julián Rendón Cardona emphasized the transformative power of these improvements, stating, “These types of scenarios that we deliver remodeled are showing how small things not only generate joy and enthusiasm, but can change people’s lives and improve their well-being.” He also announced an upcoming investment of approximately 5 billion pesos, sourced from the rate for territorial security and citizen coexistence, earmarked for the remodeling of the municipal coliseum in El Peñol.
Mayor of El Peñol, Sandra arelis Duque Velásquez, expressed gratitude for the departmental government’s commitment to regional advancement, noting that “Seeing the faces of joy of the village community is the largest reward for any public servant.”
Luis Giovany Arias Tobón, manager of Indortes Antioquia, highlighted the practical benefits of the improvements, stating the renewed sports plate provides a safe and ideal space for recreation and improved sports performance for the rural community’s children and youth. The space will also serve as a venue for family gatherings, cultural events, and community activities.
Beyond the sports plate, Indortes Antioquia has invested over 77 million pesos in El Peñol between 2024 and the present. This includes 19 million pesos dedicated to strengthening recreation programs in 2024, and a meaningful 58 million 884 thousand 615 pesos allocated this year for a new internal gymnasium at the municipality’s health promotion center, recognizing the municipality’s progress in promoting physical activity.
Currently, sports initiation programs are underway on the La plateau sidewalk, engaging approximately 100 children aged 6-13 in basketball, volleyball, indoor soccer (futsal), and chess. Physical education programs are also being conducted with students from 6th grade onwards, and sports tournaments are regularly scheduled for the rural community.
These investments reflect Antioquia’s ambition to become a national leader in recreation,physical activity,and athletic achievement,prioritizing the physical,mental,and emotional health of its citizens.
