New Huanggang Port Opens Oct 12 with 20-Second Clearance via Joint Inspection

New Huanggang Port Opens Oct 12 with 20-Second Clearance via Joint Inspection

October 11, 2026 Emma Walker – News Editor News

New Huanggang Port opens on October 12, offering 24-hour clearance and reducing travel time to five minutes via a joint inspection model.

Opening Ceremony Held Ahead of October 12 Operations

The opening ceremony for the reconstructed Huanggang Port took place on October 11 at the port’s joint inspection building, as reported by China News Service. Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu and Guangdong Provincial People’s Congress Standing Committee Director Huang Chuping attended the event and delivered remarks. The facility is set to begin formal operations at 6:30 a.m. on October 12.

Originally put into service over 30 years ago, Huanggang Port stands as China’s first large-scale land port to implement 24-hour clearance. The facility underwent reconstruction starting in 2019 to emerge as the world’s largest single-building land port complex, spanning 68.97万 square meters across four underground levels and five floors above ground, according to Guangzhou Daily.

Cooperative Inspection Model Cuts Processing Time

Travelers crossing between Shenzhen and Hong Kong will experience a streamlined verification process utilizing a cooperative inspection and one-time release system. Guangzhou Daily reported that the new method eliminates traditional dual checkpoints, cutting average crossing times from 30 minutes down to roughly five minutes. Passengers utilizing automated channels can complete the process in about 20 seconds.

The facility houses 134 cooperative inspection express channels alongside 68 manual channels distributed across multiple levels. Express lanes feature an integrated three-gate design that reads documents, collects biometric data such as fingerprints and facial features, and releases travelers. Manual channels employ a back-to-back configuration where mainland and Hong Kong authorities conduct simultaneous backend reviews.

For vehicular traffic, the port introduces a five-in-one inspection lane.

Port Opening Fosters Regional Integration

John Lee stated during the opening ceremony that the port represents a key milestone for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, according to China News Service. He noted that the project aligns with national planning directives to foster smoother flows of people, goods, capital, and information.

Huang Chuping remarked that the opening serves as an opportunity to deepen regional integration, particularly supporting the development of the Hetao Shenzhen-Hong Kong Science and Innovation Cooperation Zone. Shenzhen Municipal Party Committee Secretary Jin Lei added that local authorities will manage the portal to transform traffic volume into economic growth.

To support the increased passenger flow, the location connects to a multi-level transportation network comprising five rail transit lines and five bus routes. Commuters can access the Shenzhen subway system directly from the port to reach commercial districts.
