Bukit Batok Coffee Shop Fire: 30 Evacuated and One Hospitalised
Thirty people were evacuated and one person was taken to hospital following an early-morning fire at a ground-floor coffee shop in Bukit Batok on Sunday, Oct 11, 2026. According to the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF), emergency services received an alert regarding the blaze at Block 413 Bukit Batok West Avenue 4 at 3.50am.
Firefighters Extinguish Coffee Shop Blaze and Evacuate Residents
The fire damaged the contents of three food stalls within the coffee shop premises. SCDF firefighters forced entry into the shuttered establishment and extinguished the flames using two water jets. As a safety precaution, police and SCDF officers evacuated approximately 30 residents from the affected housing block.
Media reports and eyewitness footage highlighted the scale of the deployment. AsiaOne noted that at least six firefighting appliances were dispatched to the scene, while Must Share News reported that four fire engines and an ambulance arrived during the early hours. Footage posted on social media platforms such as Threads and TikTok showed thick white and black smoke billowing from the rear of the coffee shop and behind individual stalls.

The SCDF confirmed that one evacuated individual was transported to Ng Teng Fong General Hospital. Must Share News added that a second casualty was reported but declined conveyance to the hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Impact on Residents and Livelihoods
Hong Kah North Member of Parliament Lee Hong Chuang visited the location on Sunday to inspect the damage and speak with affected residents and stallholders. Lee observed that there was “no significant impact” on residents living directly above the coffee shop on the second floor.

However, Lee noted that the floor of one second-floor residential unit felt “slightly warm.” He advised the family residing there to exercise extra caution and keep young children away from the kitchen floor due to heat sensitivity. Beyond structural concerns, Lee emphasized the human toll of the incident, stating that the lives and livelihoods of hardworking individuals and families running the stalls had been disrupted. My thoughts are with the coffee shop owner, all the stallholders, their workers and everyone affected by this unfortunate incident,
he stated.
Prevalence of Coffee Shop Incidents
Sunday’s fire is the third reported coffee shop blaze in Singapore for 2026, following similar incidents in Waterloo Street in March and Hougang in May. According to annual statistics released by the SCDF in February, total fires across the country increased by 3 percent to 2,050 cases in 2025, up from 1,990 cases in 2024. Residential buildings accounted for more than half of those incidents, with unattended cooking and electrical faults remaining the leading causes.

Following the emergency operations, local leadership expressed appreciation for the multi-agency response. MP Lee Hong Chuang thanked the SCDF, the Housing and Development Board, the Jurong East-Bukit Batok Town Council, the police, and the Hong Kah North grassroots organisations, among others, for their support during the incident.
