Netflix Revives ‘Star Search’ – Premiere Date Set for January 13, 2026
Netflix is bringing back the iconic talent competition Star Search, wiht a live premiere scheduled for January 13, 2026. The revival will be hosted by Golden Globe nominee Anthony Anderson, known for Black-ish and currently hosting Fox’s We Are Family.
The new Star Search will feature performers across multiple categories – music, dance, variety, comedy, magic, and juniors - competing head-to-head for a chance at stardom.Each episode will include weekly eliminations persistent by real-time global voting from viewers. Episodes will air live Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 9:00 PM ET / 6:00 PM PT.
“Knowing that fans from all over the world can cast their votes in real time adds a whole new layer of excitement and participation to the mix. It’s like we’re all part of the show and get to be one of the judges,” Anderson said via Netflix’s Tudum.
The original Star Search, which ran from 1983 to 1995, previously launched the careers of numerous stars including Beyoncé, Justin Timberlake, Christina Aguilera, Britney Spears, Dave Chappelle, and Adam Sandler. It was originally hosted by Ed McMahon.
The series is showrun by Jason Raff (America’s Got Talent) and david Friedman (Bring the Funny).Executive producers include Jesse Collins, Dionne Harmon, Madison Merritt, and Elaine Metaxas. Production is by Jesse Collins Entertainment, the company behind Rhythm + Flow, the Primetime Emmy Awards, the American Music Awards, the Super Bowl Halftime Show, and Hollywood Squares.
