NBA News & Analysis: Thunder, SGA & Today’s Hotspots – Feb 24, 2026

February 24, 2026 Alex Carter - Sports Editor Sport

Oklahoma City Thunder guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander will remain sidelined for at least another week due to an abdominal strain, the team announced Tuesday.

The injury, first reported on February 4th, will keep the All-Star point guard off the court through the All-Star break, according to Brandon Rahbar of DailyThunder.com. Gilgeous-Alexander was initially diagnosed with the strain earlier this month and underwent evaluation, with a re-assessment scheduled following the All-Star festivities.

Prior to the injury, Gilgeous-Alexander had been playing through a finger issue, but was cleared to play in the Thunder’s 128-92 victory over the Orlando Magic on February 3rd, where he recorded 20 points, five rebounds, and nine assists in 28 minutes. His recent performance included a near double-double, despite shooting 8-for-22 from the field.

The 27-year-old Canadian, drafted 11th overall in 2018 by the Charlotte Hornets and subsequently traded to the Los Angeles Clippers before arriving in Oklahoma City, is a key component of the Thunder’s success. He currently averages 31.8 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 6.4 assists per game. Gilgeous-Alexander was named an All-Star starter for 2024 and has earned four All-Star selections overall (2023-2026), along with three All-NBA First Team honors (2023-2025).

The Thunder have gone 2-2 in their last four games, with Gilgeous-Alexander’s absence felt in recent contests. The team’s next scheduled game is after the All-Star break, leaving uncertainty regarding his return date beyond the initial one-week extension of his absence.
