National & International Experts Converge at UACH to Elevate Emergency Medicine Standards
Valdivia, Chile – Leading emergency medicine professionals from across Chile and the united States will gather at the Universidad Austral de Chile (UACH) this week for the sixth symposium on Emergency Medicine (SIMUV). Organized jointly by the UACH’s Graduate School Emergency Medicine Specialization Program and the Pontifical Catholic University of chile’s Emergency Medicine Program, the symposium aims to bolster emergency care throughout the country by fostering collaboration and providing crucial professional advancement opportunities.
This year’s event boasts participation from five physicians from Miami‘s largest hospital in Florida - four trauma surgeons and one emergency physician – alongside a multidisciplinary focus on trauma care.Specific sessions will address the management of patients with firearm wounds, penetrating trauma, traffic accident injuries, resuscitation techniques, and specialized care for vulnerable populations including the elderly, pregnant women, and adolescents.
“This year we will recieve five doctors from Miami… four trauma surgeons and an urgenciologist,” explained Dr. Vicente Schild, the event coordinator. “In addition, we will have a multidisciplinary day of trauma….”
Dr. Renato Varela, Founder of the Symposium and Director of the UACH Emergency medicine Program, emphasized the importance of hosting a high-caliber event outside of Santiago. “We wanted to take advantage of the city of Valdivia to attract national urgenciologists… showing that outside Santiago you can also organize high-level meetings,” he stated. “It is indeed an instance to update, know experiences from other more advanced places and learn from them.”
SIMUV will cover a range of critical topics including resuscitation and critical airway management, time-sensitive emergencies, advancements in emergency service technology and procedures, damage control resuscitation, public health considerations, trauma surgeon decision-making, penetrating trauma, and the future of trauma care.
The symposium is supported by the Chilean Society of Emergency Medicine (Sochimu) and the Umiami – Jackson Memorial Division of Global Emergency Medicine. It is designed for doctors and health professionals across specialties who routinely confront critical situations in hospital and care settings.
