Natalie Portman gets lead role in book adaptation The Days of Abandonment | NOW

Natalie Portman will star in the film adaptation of the book The Days of Abandonment by the Italian writer Elena Ferrante, reports The Wrap. The actress will also co-produce the film, which is being made for HBO.

The Days of Abandonment from 2002, published in Dutch as Days of abandonment, tells about a woman who, after a marriage of fifteen years, is suddenly abandoned by her husband and is left alone with their two children.

The film is being written, directed and co-produced by Maggie Betts. She made her debut in the film world in 2010 with the documentary The Carrier, which she made based on her own experiences of her fight against AIDS in South Africa.

Portman was last seen in Avengers: Endgame from 2019. She also provides a voice in the Marvel series What If?, which will be released next summer.
