Nalan Kaygın: Turkish Deaf Badminton & Curling Athlete

Nalan Kaygın, a deaf Turkish badminton player, secured gold in the doubles event with Hale Nur Küçüksevgili at the 2026 Turkish Deaf Badminton Championships in Osmancık, Çorum and a bronze medal in singles, continuing a period of national success in the sport.

Kaygın, born in 1993, began playing badminton at the age of twelve and has since become a prominent figure in Turkish deaf sports. She previously competed as a national deaf curler and participates in deaf athletics, specializing in middle and long-distance running. She currently represents Türasaş SK, the sports club associated with her employer company, after previously being a member of DSİ Bentspor.

Her achievements include multiple national champion titles and participation in international competitions such as the 2013 and 2017 Deaflympics. At the 2017 Deaflympics in Samsun, Turkey, she achieved a fifth-place ranking in women’s doubles alongside Esra Zeynep Ergincan. She also competed at the 2018 European Deaf Badminton Championships in Trenčín, Slovakia, and the 2025 European Deaf Badminton Championships in Brno, Czech Republic, though she did not advance to the semifinals in the latter event.

In November 2025, Kaygın was selected to represent Turkey at the 25th Summer Deaflympics in Tokyo, Japan, competing in women’s doubles, mixed doubles, and team events. This selection followed her performance at the Turkish Badminton Federation National Team Trials in Ankara in February 2025, as announced by TÜRASAŞ, her employer. She also competed in the 10 km event at the Eskişehir Half Marathon Tournament in August 2024 and participated in the 400m running event at the Turkish Indoor Deaf Athletics Championships in Istanbul in February 2025.

Kaygın was also a member of the Turkish women’s national deaf curling team at the 2024 Winter Deaflympics in Erzurum, Turkey. She is congenitally hearing impaired and resides in Eskişehir, western Turkey.
