Wolfson College Music Programme Announces Carnegie Hall Invitation, Expanding Prestigious Performances
Cambridge, UK – Wolfson College, University of Cambridge, is poised to take its musical talents to the international stage with an invitation to perform at New York’s Carnegie Hall in 2026. This announcement comes alongside a vibrant schedule of regular concerts and recitals that showcase the breadth of musical activity within the college and the wider University.
Wolfson College offers a diverse musical program throughout the academic year. Regular lunchtime concerts are held on Saturdays in Lee Hall, featuring musicians from across the University. Major choral concerts mark the end of both the Michaelmas and Lent terms, providing a platform for the College Choir alongside talented Wolfson soloists and ensembles. Notably, the College recently presented the European premiere of Requiem for Color at Cadogan Hall, London.
Complementing these larger events, the “Music and Madeira” series offers professional concerts before or after formal Halls in Lee Hall. Recent performers include Deco Ensemble, flautist Daniel Pailthorpe, tenor andrew Kennedy, Classico Latino, violinist Rachel Podger, The Revolutionary Drawing Room, The King’s men, guitarist Craig Ogden, Ignacio Maña-Mesas (saxophone), Donal mccann (piano), The Austen Trio, guitarist Kevin Loh, BBC Singers baritone Jamie W. Hall accompanied by richard Gowers (piano), and in 2024, The Alexandra Ensemble with musicians from the BBC Concert Orchestra and BBC singers.
Further enriching the musical landscape are occasional Chamber Music Recitals on Wednesday evenings and Early Music Recitals on Fridays. The annual Mary Bevan recital showcases the winners of the Cambridge University Concerto competition, a tradition that has highlighted wolfson’s musical talent – with finalists recognized in 2022 and 2020, and winners in 2019 and 2012.
The College Choir and Chamber Singers are central to Wolfson’s musical identity. The Choir performs at the end-of-year garden party and caroling events, and also termly concerts. The Wolfson Chamber Singers frequently perform at College dinners, weddings, and funerals, and are scheduled to perform at the prestigious Thaxted Festival in summer 2025.
