LOS ANGELES, CA - October 10, 2025 – Warner Music Group (WMG) is nearing a deal with Netflix to produce a slate of films and documentaries centered around its iconic artists, potentially bringing the stories of music legends like madonna and Stevie Nicks to the big screen. The partnership, revealed at the Bloomberg Screentime conference on Wednesday, aims to capitalize on WMG’s vast catalog of musical history, which CEO Robert Kyncl likened to “Marvel [Comics] for music,” offering a wealth of untold narratives ripe for cinematic adaptation.
The agreement comes as Hollywood increasingly turns to music biopics, fueled by the success of films like Bohemian Rhapsody and Rocketman. while several projects based on WMG artists are already underway - including Selena Gomez as Linda Ronstadt, Leonardo DiCaprio as Frank Sinatra, and Jennifer Lawrence as Ava Gardner – this deal signals a important expansion of that trend, promising a dedicated stream of content focused on the lives and careers of WMG’s extensive roster. The move allows WMG to directly control and benefit from the storytelling around its intellectual property, while providing Netflix with a proven audience draw.
Kyncl highlighted the untapped potential within WMG’s catalog, specifically mentioning Prince, Madonna, and Fleetwood Mac as artists with compelling stories.
