A 37-year-old Ohio woman, identified as Ashley Flynn, was fatally shot during a reported burglary at her home in Tipp City early Monday morning, authorities confirmed. Police responded to a call reporting a burglary in progress at a residence on Cunningham Court around 2:30 a.m., discovering Flynn with a gunshot wound, according to Tipp City Police Chief Greg Adkins.

Flynn, a substitute teacher and volleyball coach at Tippecanoe Middle School, was pronounced dead at the scene. Tipp City Schools described her as having a positive impact on students both inside and outside the classroom. She as well worked as a teacher at Lifewise Academy, where colleagues expressed heartbreak over her death. Christian Life Center in Dayton noted Flynn was a member of their church.

Flynn’s husband, Caleb Flynn, and their two children were present in the home at the time of the incident but were not physically injured. Investigators found signs of forced entry, indicating a potential home invasion. As of Tuesday afternoon, no suspects had been identified, and police were actively reviewing tips, and evidence.

Authorities are collaborating with multiple agencies in the investigation, including the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation, the Miami County Sheriff’s Office, the Miami County Prosecutor’s Office, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. An autopsy was conducted Tuesday morning, with results pending. Investigators secured the scene and continued collecting evidence throughout Monday and Tuesday.

Chief Adkins stated that investigators believe two shots were fired inside the home. He has requested additional resources from the FBI to assist with the review of incoming video evidence. The Tipp City Police Department confirmed they are utilizing all available staff and resources to pursue what they describe as a complex homicide investigation.

A prayer gathering was held Monday afternoon at Lifewise Academy to honor Flynn. The community has expressed shock and grief over her death, remembering her for her “elegant smile, warmth, kindness,” according to a statement from Tipp City Schools.
