Most Popular Baby Names in Switzerland 2025: Noah and Sofia Top the List
Noah and Sofia Claim the Top Spots for Swiss Newborns in 2025
Data released by the Federal Statistical Office on August 21, 2026, confirms the two names captured the most popular baby names in Switzerland for newborn children in 2025.
A Decade of Dominance for Boy Names Led by Noah
Official records show Noah previously held the number one spot in 2010, 2011, from 2013 to 2017, and again from 2021 through 2024.
Following Noah in the 2025 rankings for boys are Liam and Gabriel, rounding out the top three positions nationally. Yet familiarity breeds sudden shifts elsewhere on the ledger.
Federal statistics indicate that Milan experienced the steepest drop among boy names, falling 76 places compared to the previous year. Conversely, Maleo entered the top 100 list for the first time, while Arno emerged as one of the largest climbers in the overall rankings.
Sofia Ascends to the Crown for Newborn Girls
Among girl names, Sofia captured the top position for 2025 after consistently ranking near the top in prior years. Federal data notes that Sofia previously placed within the top three between 2017 and 2019, as well as from 2022 to 2024. Emma and Mia occupied the second and third podium spots for newborn girls nationwide.

Stability at the summit did not prevent upheaval below. Linda registered the sharpest decline for girls between 2024 and 2025, dropping 69 places in the national standings. At the same time, Mina made its debut among the 100 most popular baby names, and Liyana recorded one of the most substantial upward movements.
Contrasting Newborn Choices with the Resident Population
The modern nursery bears little resemblance to the wider Swiss populace. Federal statistics show that while parents heavily favor short, melodic names like Noah and Sofia for newborns, the most common names across the entire permanent resident population of Switzerland remain Daniel and Maria.
