Morocco has been ranked number one in the 2026 World Immunity Index, a study examining the interplay between environmental factors, lifestyle choices, and immune system performance across 30 nations. Published by UK-based supplements company Nature’s Best, the index awarded Morocco a score of 63.4 out of 80, surpassing India, which came in second with 54.2, and South Africa, which scored 53.7. The index evaluated countries based on eight indicators: median age, obesity levels, alcohol-related hospital admissions, smoking prevalence, annual temperature, pollution, average rainfall, and Google searches for “mould” and “damp.” Researchers utilized public health data, weather records, and internet search trends to assess these factors. Morocco’s high ranking was attributed to its consistently low rainfall, reduced online searches related to mold and dampness, and comparatively lower smoking rates. According to Nature’s Best, these conditions contribute to reduced stress on the body, potentially bolstering immune function. In contrast, the United States and the United Kingdom placed among the lowest performers, receiving scores of 30.4 and 28.5 respectively, largely due to higher rates of obesity and smoking. “The findings show that small, everyday habits matter,” stated Charlotte East, a nutrition expert at Nature’s Best. “Sleep, regular exercise and a balanced diet all play a role in keeping the immune system working well.” The report also highlighted the importance of nutrients like vitamin D, vitamin C, and zinc for immune support, while cautioning against relying on supplements as a replacement for a healthy diet. The World Immunity Index does not directly measure individuals’ immune system capabilities. Instead, it focuses on factors correlated with immune health through existing research. The study’s findings underscore the impact of environmental conditions and lifestyle choices on overall well-being. Nature’s Best indicated further analysis will focus on identifying specific areas within England that demonstrate strong support for immune health.
