Morena asks SCJN for recusal for PAN’s admission of appeal against plurinominals

The national leadership of Morena presented to the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation a recusal appeal against the president minister Norma Lucía Piña and the minister Juan Luis González Alcántara Carrancá, for admitting to process an appeal by the leader of the PAN, Marko Cortés, with which he seeks that the highest court be the one to analyze the distribution of plurinominal federal deputies.

“We are asking for the recusal because they clearly have a conflict of interest. Minister Gonzalez Alcántara was the host of that dinner (held in December) that they had with the Chief Justice of the Court and the president of the Institutional Revolutionary Party (Alejandro Moreno), in the middle of the electoral process,” Delgado mentioned in a press conference, within the framework of the plenary session of the elected deputies of Morena.

He said that neither of the two ministers can deal with this case, because “they have a conflict of interest and they could not rule on this issue.”

Accompanied by the president-elect, Claudia Sheinbaum; the next coordinator of the cherry bench in San Lázaro, Ricardo Monreal, and the general secretary of the party – next head of the Women’s Secretariat -, Citlalli Hernández, announced that they will also file a claim for the acceptance of this complaint.

“The Court cannot intervene in a matter that is the responsibility of the Electoral Tribunal, which is to determine the proportional representation for each political party. It would upset the powers that the Tribunal has and what is the responsibility of the Supreme Court,” he insisted.

The future Secretary of Public Education asserted that “with this partial, factional action by some members of the Court, it is even more obvious to the people of Mexico that a profound reform of the Judicial Branch is urgently needed.”

It is, he added, “trying to interfere in a decision that the people have made in a forceful manner. A reform of the Judicial Branch is urgently needed, such as the one that is being proposed; a Court that seeks justice for all Mexicans and that does not act in a factional manner.”
