Mobile Suit Gundam Seed Freedom Zero North American Release Date and Cast Revealed

Bandai Namco Filmworks Inc. announced at the New York Comic Con that Mobile Suit Gundam Seed Freedom Zero will premiere in North American theaters in February 2027. The announcement was accompanied by a new promotional trailer and key casting details for the English dub release.

The English voice cast features Matthew Erickson returning as Shinn Asuka, Matt Hill as Kira Yamato, and Sam Vincent as Athrun Zala. The release window and casting details were unveiled during the Gundam Showcase 2026 @ NYC panel at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center, with a recording slated for release on the Popverse YouTube channel. EDT at the Jacob K. EDT at Hall 1A Autographing, where Matt Hill, Sam Vincent and Matthew Erickson signed Gundam-related items.

Fan Support Enables New Gundam Seed Prequel

The upcoming film serves as a prequel to Mobile Suit Gundam Seed Freedom, which grossed over 5 billion yen and drew 3 million viewers to become the highest-earning film in the franchise’s history. The new promotional artwork features Shinn Asuka from Mobile Suit Gundam Seed Destiny.

Director Mitsuo Fukuda developed the screenplay alongside the late Chiaki Morosawa and Shigeru Morita during the production of Seed Freedom. Fukuda noted that he had nearly resigned himself to the script remaining unproduced until fan support enabled the cinematic adaptation. He stated that the story illustrates the aspirations Morosawa wanted to express while uniting Destiny and Freedom. Fukuda stated: It is the final work of my late wife, Chiaki Morosawa, who served as the series scriptwriter. He further stated: J’espère sincèrement que le film plaira à tous.

Shinn Asuka Seeks Strike Freedom Gundam

While the major war has ended, Shinn Asuka struggles to find his path before a surviving mobile suit is transferred from ZAFT to the temporary COMPS base on Onogoro Island. When the Strike Freedom Gundam is stolen by unknown parties, Shinn and his comrades deploy to recover the machine.

The character roster features returning figures alongside new faces. Leonard Valway joins the narrative alongside returning veterans Kira Yamato, who initially fought for the Earth Alliance before joining an independent force and teaming up with Lacus to end the conflict, Athrun Zala, and Yzak Jule. Shinn previously joined ZAFT after losing his family during the invasion of Orb, was manipulated by Dullindal to oppose Kira and his comrades before making peace with them after the war, and subsequently integrated into COMPS to build a world without war while training alongside the Archangel in Orb.

Bandai Namco Filmworks Hosts New York Screenings

Alongside the convention announcements, Bandai Namco Filmworks organized companion events across New York. A two-day screening of Mobile Suit Gundam Seed Freedom is scheduled at the Museum of the Moving Image in Queens on October 11 and October 12, featuring Japanese audio with English subtitles and a talk show appearance by planning producer Kaori Shida. The October 11 event also included an exclusive Gundam Seed series poster giveaway. Fans unable to attend the New York events could access identical updates via a worldwide streaming program broadcast on the GUNDAM CHANNEL INTL YouTube channel beginning at 3:45 p.m. EDT on October 8, which delivered the same updates revealed during the NYCC panel without being a direct recording or live broadcast of the panel.
