Missouri RB Ahmad Hardy to Debut vs. Arkansas, ESPN Reports
Missouri All-American tailback Ahmad Hardy will make his 2026 season debut this weekend against Arkansas after missing the opening months due to injuries sustained from being struck by a bullet in May, ESPN reported. He will not start the game but is expected to receive a handful of carries.
Hardy returns to the field following a gunshot wound recovery
The path back to the gridiron has involved a lengthy recovery process. Hardy has been sidelined since May following the shooting incident that left him dealing with various injuries. He returned to practice this week, clearing the final hurdle to re-enter the lineup. ESPN noted that Hardy was left off the team’s availability report on Wednesday for the first time this season.
Missouri coach Eliah Drinkwitz has maintained a guarded approach when addressing his running back’s recovery timeline. Drinkwitz noted publicly that no established blueprint exists for a player returning from injuries related to gunshot wounds. The coaching staff has managed his return with caution.
Production adjustments during the absence
Last season, Hardy led the Southeastern Conference in rushing by racking up 1,649 yards. He averaged 6.4 yards per carry, punched in 16 touchdowns, earned consensus All-America honors, and finished as a finalist for the Doak Walker Award alongside first-team All-SEC recognition.

In his absence, tailback Jamal Roberts stepped into an expanded role and carried a heavy load for the team. Roberts currently leads the conference by averaging 124 rushing yards per game.
Upcoming schedule tests the roster depth
Following the matchup in Arkansas, Missouri faces three highly ranked opponents: No. 11 Texas, a road game against No. 3 Georgia, and a matchup with No. 9 Kentucky.
