Two Jakarta Men Reported Missing After Protests Found Safe, Police Confirm
JAKARTA, Indonesia – Two men reported missing following large demonstrations in Jakarta late last August have been located, police announced Thursday. bima permana Putra and Eko Purnomo were found in Malang, East Java, and Central Kalimantan, respectively, and authorities have determined both left their homes voluntarily.
the Jakarta Metro police initiated searches for the pair after receiving missing persons reports from Kontras, a human rights group. Concerns arose as their whereabouts remained unknown in the wake of the protests.
According to Brigadier General Ade Ary Syam Indradi, Head of the Public Relations Division of the Jakarta Metro Police, investigations involving statements from family members led to the conclusion that both men made self-reliant decisions to leave. “It is concluded that the two people left home by personal decision,” Ade stated.
Investigators found Bima Permana Putra had traveled to Malang on September 1,2025,selling his motorcycle en route and continuing his journey by train. Grand Commissioner Wira Satya Triputra, Director of General Crime Inquiry, stated Bima had been working as a toy vendor in the klenteng Lama area, seeking “to live independently.”
Eko Purnomo had been out of contact with his family since around September 4, 2025, but contacted his mother on September 16, 2025, to report he was working as a fisherman in Central Kalimantan.Director of Cyber Crime Investigation, Roberto GM Pasaribu, confirmed Eko was “working on a ship to make a living.”
While Bima and Eko have been found, two othre individuals initially reported missing by Kontras – Reno Syachputra dewo and Muhammad Farhan Hamid – remain unaccounted for.
