Miryang Braces for Packed October with Festivals Celebrating Culture, Heritage & Sports
Miryang, South Korea - Miryang City is gearing up for a vibrant October, packed with a series of festivals and events celebrating its citizens, cultural heritage, and athletic spirit. From October 17th through November 2nd, the city will host a diverse lineup including CitizenS Day celebrations, a National heritage Night, an International Yoga Conference, and the Gyeongsangnam-do Sports Festival.
The festivities kick off October 17th with the 30th Miryang Citizen’s Day commemorative event, organized by the International Wise Miryang Club. The day will feature a street parade, ceremony performances, a commemorative ceremony, a citizen festival (“Hanmadang“), and an open concert starting at 5 pm.Highlights include the Citizen’s Grand Prize awards (presented to Kim Eun-min, Cho Moon-soo, and Son Heung-sang) and a performance marking the 30th anniversary of the local government. The open concert will feature performances by Trot singers Lee Chan-won,Oh Yu-jin,and Kim Eui-young,preceded by the Milyang Arirang Orchestra at the Citizen Hanmadang Festival.
Running concurrently, the 2025 Miryang National Heritage Night will illuminate Gwan-ah and Yeongnam-ru with traditional performances, experiential activities, and a “truth market,” themed around ”8 Nights.” The event will also recreate the Fire Flower Fire play along the Miryang River.
On October 18th, the Gyeongnam Intangible Heritage Festival, organized by the Intangible Heritage Association, will showcase representative intangible cultural heritage from across the province at Yeongnam-ru. Performances will include Miryang baekjungnori, tolerating the crab, goseong Ogwangdae, and Haman Hwacheon Nongak.
Beyond cultural celebrations,Miryang will also host the 9th Miryang International Yoga Conference (Vibebecayo) at Sunshine Miryang Theme Park on October 18th and 19th. Organizers anticipate over 1,500 participants,including world yoga experts and tourists,engaging in professional sessions,group training,and yoga cultural concerts. Throughout October, a “yoga Circle Town” promotion will offer full refunds on experience fees and half-price travel packages for external tourists.
The autumn festival season culminates with the 36th Gyeongsangnam-do Sports Festival from October 31st to November 2nd. More than 12,000 athletes from 18 cities and counties across the province will compete in 31 different sports.A Mr.Trot 3 TOP7 concert will be held at the Milyang Sports Complex on the evening of November 1st, adding a cultural element to the sporting event.
“Citizens’ Day, National Heritage Night, International Yoga Conference, followed by walking competitions and sports festivals, and the entire city will be colored as autumn festivals,” stated Mayor Ahn Byung-gu, highlighting the breadth of events planned for the month.
