Minnesota Kindergartners: Rising Exemptions and Free Vaccination Clinics

EDEN PRAIE,‌ MINNESOTA – Health officials‍ in Minnesota are urging residents to‍ get vaccinated against measles following the confirmation of a second ⁢case in the ⁤state. The announcement comes amid growing concerns​ about potential outbreaks as children ⁢return to school.

The Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) reported the latest case, prompting renewed calls for vaccination to protect individuals and communities.

To facilitate access to⁢ vaccines, Hennepin County is offering free walk-in clinics throughout the first ‍month of‌ the school​ year.⁤ These clinics aim ⁢to increase vaccination ⁤rates and prevent further spread of the highly contagious virus.

Measles is a highly contagious ‍airborne⁣ disease‍ that ⁢can‍ cause severe health complications, ‌including pneumonia,​ encephalitis (brain swelling), and even death. Symptoms⁣ typically begin with fever,‍ cough, runny​ nose, and red, watery eyes, followed by a rash that spreads over the body.

The Centers for Disease Control‌ and Prevention (CDC) recommends that all children ‌receive two doses of the​ measles,mumps,and ‍rubella (MMR) vaccine,with the⁣ first dose administered ‍between ⁤12 and 15 months of age and the second dose between 4 and 6 years of age. Vaccination is the most effective way to prevent measles ⁣and protect against its potentially serious⁤ consequences.
