PONTIAC, Mich. – Erebus Haunted House is preparing for the Halloween season by offering “Scare School,” a training program for aspiring horror actors, beginning October 2, 2025.The immersive course aims to equip participants wiht the skills to terrify visitors within the notoriously frightening attraction.
Erebus, consistently ranked among the nation’s scariest haunted houses, draws thrill-seekers and those willing to test their courage. The Scare school initiative underscores the haunted house’s commitment to maintaining its reputation for intense scares and provides a unique chance for individuals interested in the art of fright. The program’s success directly impacts the visitor experience and contributes to the attraction’s long-standing tradition of pushing fear boundaries.
The haunted house, located in Pontiac, Michigan, has been operated by the Terebus family since its inception. Zac Terebus explained that the attraction features strategically placed “chicken exits”-actually fire exits-allowing patrons to request removal from the experience if overwhelmed. “At any point in the show, if you say, ‘I want out,’ we take you out, we escort you down, you end up here in the exit lobby, you can wait for yoru group to come on out,” he saeid.
The attraction also tracks visitor reactions with a “Wimp Out Score Board,” currently listing 10,711 “wimps” and 1,246 “wetters, pukers & fainters” – cumulative totals since the Terebus family opened the haunted house. The board serves as a playful metric of the haunted house’s effectiveness and fuels a friendly competition among the actors to elicit the strongest reactions.
Erebus Haunted House first opened its doors in 2000 and has since grown into a multi-attraction complex, consistently earning accolades for its elaborate sets, detailed costumes, and dedicated performers. The 2025 season promises to build on this legacy, offering both seasoned horror fans and newcomers a truly terrifying experience.
