Michelle Yeoh Stars in New ‘Star Trek: Section 31’ Movie

Michelle Yeoh will reprise her role as Emperor Philippa Georgiou in a new standalone ⁤”Star Trek” movie ​centered on Section 31,Paramount+ announced. The film ⁤will⁣ mark a notable expansion of ⁣the character’s storyline,initially developed⁣ in Star Trek: ‍Finding.

Yeoh, who recently made⁢ history ‌as ⁤the first woman of Asian descent to win a Best Actress Oscar for Everything Everywhere All At Once, expressed her excitement about⁤ returning to the role she’s played since the current “Star Trek” revival began. This project offers a dedicated showcase for Georgiou, a ⁢complex character whose journey has captivated​ fans, and arrives on the heels⁤ of a landmark year for Yeoh, both professionally and representationally. Production is slated to ‍begin later this year.

According to a‍ press release,⁤ the‌ movie ​will follow​ Georgiou as she ⁢joins Starfleet’s clandestine Section 31 division, tasked‍ with safeguarding the‌ United federation of⁣ Planets​ while confronting her own ⁢past. “To‌ see ⁢her finally get her moment is a dream ⁣come true,” ‌Yeoh stated. “We can’t wait to ⁤share what’s in store for you, and until then:​ live long and prosper (unless Emperor georgiou decrees otherwise).”

Everything Everywhere All at Once ​earned seven Academy Awards in March, ⁤including Yeoh’s historic win and⁣ the award for Best Picture. The “Section 31” film will explore⁣ the morally ambiguous world of ​the secret‌ division and its impact on the Star Trek universe.
