Michelle Yeoh will reprise her role as Emperor Philippa Georgiou in a new standalone ”Star Trek” movie centered on Section 31,Paramount+ announced. The film will mark a notable expansion of the character’s storyline,initially developed in Star Trek: Finding.
Yeoh, who recently made history as the first woman of Asian descent to win a Best Actress Oscar for Everything Everywhere All At Once, expressed her excitement about returning to the role she’s played since the current “Star Trek” revival began. This project offers a dedicated showcase for Georgiou, a complex character whose journey has captivated fans, and arrives on the heels of a landmark year for Yeoh, both professionally and representationally. Production is slated to begin later this year.
According to a press release, the movie will follow Georgiou as she joins Starfleet’s clandestine Section 31 division, tasked with safeguarding the United federation of Planets while confronting her own past. “To see her finally get her moment is a dream come true,” Yeoh stated. “We can’t wait to share what’s in store for you, and until then: live long and prosper (unless Emperor georgiou decrees otherwise).”
Everything Everywhere All at Once earned seven Academy Awards in March, including Yeoh’s historic win and the award for Best Picture. The “Section 31” film will explore the morally ambiguous world of the secret division and its impact on the Star Trek universe.
