Meta Unveils Ray-Ban meta Smart Glasses with Live Camera adn AI Capabilities
MENLO PARK, CA – Meta today launched the next generation of Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses, marking a significant step toward mainstream augmented reality (AR) with the introduction of a live camera and integrated AI assistant. Alongside the updated Ray-Ban model, Meta also revealed the Oakley Meta Vanguard, a sport-focused version designed for athletes and fitness enthusiasts.
The new Ray-Ban Meta glasses feature a 12MP camera capable of capturing high-resolution photos and videos,and crucially,livestreaming directly to Facebook and Instagram. Users can interact with the glasses hands-free using voice commands, powered by Meta AI, allowing for real-time data access, message sending, and content creation. This launch represents Meta’s continued investment in wearable technology and it’s vision for a future where digital experiences seamlessly blend with the physical world, potentially reshaping how people connect, capture memories, and access information on the go.
The Ray-Ban Meta glasses are available for £379 (€419/$379/A$599) and ship instantly,boasting double the battery life of the previous generation and a higher resolution video camera. Meta is also targeting the athletic market with the Oakley Meta Vanguard, priced at £499 (€549/$499), which features a wrap-around design, water resistance, and up to nine hours of battery life. The Vanguard integrates with Garmin watches and bike computers, displaying real-time data like speed, pace, and heart rate via an LED indicator.
Both models include a central camera, microphones, and speakers. The Oakley Vanguard can automatically capture video clips based on performance milestones – such as every kilometer, speed, elevation, or heart rate thresholds – and stitch them together with data overlays for highlight reels, shareable directly to Strava. The glasses also offer swappable lenses and replaceable nose pads for a secure fit.
