Tomorrowland Opens on Time After Metallica Lends Stage Equipment Following Fire Devastation
Tomorrowland successfully opened its gates as scheduled on Friday at 2 p.m., thanks to a last-minute assist from the legendary rock band Metallica. A devastating fire had destroyed the festival’s main stage, but Metallica, currently on its M72 World Tour, provided crucial stage components, including a massive screen wall, which were airlifted to the festival grounds overnight.
The swift action allowed Tomorrowland organizers to proceed with the event,a feat described as a “miracle” by festival spokesperson Debby Wilmsen. “Two hours ago we were still demolishing the old stage,” Wilmsen told DJ Mag,highlighting the urgency of the situation.
Festival headliner Martin Garrix expressed his gratitude to Metallica via Instagram, sharing a photo with drummer Lars Ulrich. “I can not beleive I’m actually typing this … but my set at Tomorrowland is still happening!” Garrix posted. “Massive love and a big shoutout to the incredible Tomorrowland team for pulling off miracles – and to Metallica for coming through with the new stage parts.Beyond excited to close the main stage tonight. And this will hands down be the most unique Tomorrowland ever.”
Metallica’s M72 World Tour is set to resume in November in Australia, with the band scheduled to return to Europe in May 2026.

There are moments of indecision when compiling this list. After all, we really could have had – for the frist time ever – a three-way tie for first.
