Nancy E. Larson Takes teh Helm as Acting U.S. Attorney for Northern District of Texas
On May 29, 2025, Nancy E. Larson assumed the role of Acting United States Attorney for the Northern District of texas, marking a notable moment for federal law enforcement in the region.
A Vast District, A Critical Role
Ms. Larson now serves as the chief federal law enforcement officer for a sprawling district encompassing 96,000 square miles and a population of approximately eight million residents. Her responsibilities are extensive,overseeing roughly 220 attorneys and staff across five division offices.
Her purview includes all federal criminal prosecutions and civil litigation involving the U.S. government within the Northern District. This encompasses a wide array of legal matters, from complex financial crimes to cases involving national security.
Decades of dedicated Service
Ms. Larson brings a wealth of experience to her new position, having served as an Assistant united States Attorney for more than 30 years. her career began with the Department of Justice in the District of Columbia, where she honed her skills as a federal prosecutor.
During her time in the D.C. United States Attorney’s Office, Ms. Larson led successful prosecutions involving homicide, narcotics, violent crime, fraud, and other offenses.
This early experience provided her with a strong foundation in criminal law and trial advocacy.
Ascending Through the Ranks in Texas
In 1999,Ms. Larson transitioned to the Northern District of Texas, taking on the role of lead prosecutor for the Housing Fraud Initiative. This initiative aimed to combat fraud and abuse within the housing sector, protecting homeowners and ensuring the integrity of federal housing programs.
After her work in the Criminal Division, Ms. Larson was appointed Chief of the Appellate Division, a position she held for over a decade. In this capacity, she regularly represented the United States before the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals, arguing complex legal issues and defending the government’s interests.
Ms. Larson’s contributions extend beyond her work in the Appellate Division. She also served as the district’s executive Assistant United States Attorney and its Professional Duty Officer, demonstrating her commitment to ethical conduct and effective management within the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
Her extensive trial experience is another key asset. Ms.Larson is an accomplished trial lawyer, having represented the United States in more than two dozen criminal trials.
This hands-on experience provides her with a deep understanding of the legal process and the challenges faced by prosecutors in the courtroom.

A native of new York, Ms. Larson earned her Juris doctor (J.D.) from the University of Virginia School of Law,a top-ranked law school known for its rigorous academic programme and distinguished alumni.
