Duisburg to Host Major International Media Psychology Conference in September
DUISBURG, GERMANY – September 9th marks the opening of the MediaPsych Conference 2025, hosted by the University of Duisburg-Essen (UDE). The 14th conference of the Media Psychology Section of the German Psychological Society will bring together researchers from around the globe to explore the psychological and social impacts of digital technologies.
The event underscores Duisburg’s growing prominence as a hub for research into human-technology interaction, notably following the establishment of the UDE’s Faculty of Computer Science in october 2023. The conference aims to inform social debates and political decisions related to media literacy and technology regulation.
“Especially in media psychology, where digital change transcends all boundaries, the value of international conferences becomes clear: they create spaces for exchange and joint solutions – and foster a global understanding of how people interact with ever-evolving technologies,” said Prof. Dr. German Neubaum, media psychologist at UDE.
The conference, organized in collaboration with the Center for Advanced Internet Studies (CAIS), will feature keynotes from Prof. Dr. Jessica Piotrowski (University of Amsterdam) on digital competence and Dr. Mitra Shamsi (Iran) on digital visibility and feminist activism. Pre-conference workshops, including sessions tailored for doctoral students and practical training on AI tools, begin September 10th.
Registration is open until September 9th. Further information is available at https://www.uni-due.de/media-psych-2025/.
