Maryland Drivers Face Nation’s Fifth-highest Vehicle Registration Fees

MARYLAND (WBFF)⁣ – Maryland drivers are⁤ expressing growing frustration as vehicle registration fees have nearly doubled in the‌ past‍ two years, now ranking the⁢ state fifth highest in the nation for such costs.

The current fee for the average vehicle is $120.50, trailing only North dakota ($162), ‍Illinois ($151), Oregon ($137), and ‍Montana ($127).This represents a significant⁢ increase compared to other states; Mississippi charges just $12.75 for registration, while Delaware’s fee is $40 and Pennsylvania’s is $48.New York and Texas both have fees around ‍$50 – less than half of Maryland’s current rate.

“People cannot afford this level of taxation,” stated⁤ Maryland Delegate Kathy Szeliga.

The fee hikes ‍come after Maryland addressed a $3 billion budget‍ deficit earlier this year, opting to raise taxes and fees as a rapid revenue source. Critics contend the state should have prioritized spending cuts instead of placing the financial burden on residents.

The increased costs are prompting some Marylanders to consider relocating. “It’s crazy they make you want to go to another state,” said Baltimore driver Derrick Queensberry.
