Chateau Meiland Star Martien Meiland Samples Stranger’s Seafood in Italy
ROME, ITALY - Martien Meiland, star of the popular Dutch reality series Chateau Meiland, caused a stir at an Italian restaurant by helping himself to food from a diner’s plate. The incident occurred during a recent episode of Chateau Meiland: La dolce vita, filmed as the family explores Italy.
The Meiland family had chosen a restaurant situated directly on the water, impressing the group. “I think it’s unique. It’s really Italian,” remarked Maxime Meiland, while Montana Meiland noted the location “also looks like it does on the internet.”
Though, the entirely Italian menu presented a challenge for Martien, who doesn’t speak the language. In a characteristically bold move, he decided to investigate another customer’s order. Approaching a woman receiving her meal, Martien cheekily asked, “Hi, is this pasta?”
The woman explained the dish was a mixed seafood selection. Undeterred by etiquette,Martien leaned over and took a piece directly from her plate, declaring enthusiastically,”Oh girl,it’s good!”
Montana questioned whether the seafood was squid or shrimp. When their waiter arrived to take their order,Martien opted to order the same dish as the woman he’d sampled. The waiter clarified it was a mixed fried selection of seafood and fish, to which Martien readily agreed.
Upon arrival, Martien encountered unfamiliar seafood on his plate. Maxime assisted by sampling an octopus, proclaiming it ”Very tasty.”
The incident unfolded as the Meiland family recently announced they are concluding Chateau Meiland after several accomplished seasons, seeking a period of rest and a shift in focus away from television production.
Viewers can catch Chateau Meiland: La dolce vita every Monday at 8:30 PM on SBS6.
