Former NFL Quarterback Mark Sanchez Expresses Gratitude Months After Indianapolis Stabbing
Months following a stabbing incident in Indianapolis, former New York jets quarterback Mark Sanchez shared a heartfelt message on Instagram expressing his gratitude for his family and the support he’s received. The post, made during the holiday season, is one of the few public statements Sanchez has released as the Oct. 4 altercation.
“This time of year always makes me look around and appreciate what matters, but this one hits different,” Sanchez wrote alongside images of his wife, Perry Mattfeld, and their twin daughters. “I’m just grateful – to wake up, to be home, and to be able to wrap my arms around my wife and kids. Thank you to the people who kept me standing and gave my family opportunities to share moments like these.”
Sanchez, 39, was hospitalized after being stabbed during a quarrel with a grease truck driver in an alley near a hotel. He was subsequently arrested and faces multiple criminal charges, with investigators alleging he was the aggressor. A civil suit has also been filed against Sanchez by the alleged victim, who claims to have been “permanently disfigured” during the dispute.
Sanchez briefly addressed the public on Oct. 12 while leaving Marion County Jail, stating he was “focused on my recovery” and thanking first responders,Eskenazi Hospital, and the Indianapolis Police Department. His trial, initially scheduled for December, has been postponed to March.
Following the incident, Fox sports terminated Sanchez’s employment. The former NFL player played for the Jets for five seasons.
