Marius Borg Høiby Loses Diplomatic Passport Amid Serious Charges

Step-son of Norwegian Crown Prince Faces Rape and Assault Allegations

Marius Borg Høiby, the step-son of Norway’s Crown Prince Haakon, has reportedly had his diplomatic passport revoked. The decision follows a recent five-day holiday in Portugal with the heir and his half-brother, Prince Sverre Magnus. The exact reasons for the passport’s surrender remain undisclosed.

Legal Scrutiny Intensifies

The 28-year-old Høiby has been under intense scrutiny since his repeated arrests in 2024 on preliminary charges. In late June, Oslo police formally charged Høiby with multiple counts, including rape, sexual assault, and bodily harm, following an investigation into a case reportedly involving a “double-digit” number of alleged victims.

State Attorney Sturla Henriksbø indicated that clarity on the charges is expected by mid-August, according to national paper Se og Hør. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed Høiby no longer possesses a diplomatic passport but declined to elaborate on the specifics of the revocation.

Passport Privileges and New Regulations

Høiby had reportedly held both diplomatic and standard passports since his youth. While members of the Royal House are issued diplomatic passports, other Royal Family members typically switch to standard passports after turning 18, under recent policy changes. This means Marius Borg Høiby, along with Princess Märtha Louise‘s three daughters, should now travel with regular Norwegian documentation.

Diplomatic passports grant holders special airport privileges. However, misuse is prohibited; the document is intended solely for official travel with other family members, not for private vacations. Reports suggest Høiby may have used his diplomatic passport for solo international trips, including to Cannes, Italy, and Monaco, constituting a breach of these rules.

It is unclear precisely when Høiby surrendered the document, potentially as recently as six months ago. Last November, he was detained by police for a week to prevent evidence tampering during the initial stages of the investigation.

Details of the Allegations Emerge

Oslo Police Attorney Andreas Kruszewski confirmed Høiby, son of Princess Mette-Marit, cooperated fully with police questioning. Evidence gathered includes text messages, witness testimonies, and police searches. The charges encompass one count of rape involving intercourse, two counts of rape without intercourse, four counts of sexual assault, and two counts of bodily harm, with a total of “double-digit” alleged victims.

Høiby‘s defense attorney, Petar Sekulic, stated his client takes the accusations seriously but denies wrongdoing in most cases, particularly those involving sexual abuse and violence. The royal palace has adopted a no-comment stance as the case progresses through the legal system.

In November, Crown Prince Haakon addressed his stepson’s arrest, stating, “Marius is facing serious accusations, which the police and the judiciary will deal with. I am convinced they will do a good job.” He added that the family prioritizes helping Marius receive support within legal frameworks.

Public Reaction and Victim Testimony

Marius Borg Høiby, formerly known as ‘Little Marius,’ grew up in the public eye. Despite allegations, he reportedly attended the Cannes Film Festival, boarding a luxury yacht and visiting exclusive beach clubs. He has also traveled to Hemsedal, Copenhagen, and Italy since the charges surfaced.

National media personality Linni Meister has spoken out about the alleged assault, which she claims occurred at one of Høiby‘s parties. Meister expressed her distress over Høiby‘s perceived lack of remorse and his continued social activities, stating, “He has no respect for himself or his family. Not even for us victims.” Her lawyer, Ellen Holager Andenæs, has declined to comment on statements made on social media, urging against excessive media pressure.

The State Attorney stated that a time frame for Marius' charges is difficult to predict.

Norway’s Centre for Combating Violence and Trauma reports a significant rise in sexual assault cases, with over 11,000 reported in 2023 alone, highlighting the gravity of such accusations within society. The alleged assault by Høiby reportedly took place in 2018 at Skaugum Castle, with police allegedly discovering incriminating videos and photos on his laptop.

Further allegations include a fifth accusation of rape after his release from police custody for assaulting his girlfriend. Another case of rape without intercourse, allegedly occurring late last year while he was already facing assault charges, has also been reported.

Høiby has reportedly undergone treatment at rehab centers in London since his arrest. He remains free pending a potential trial and is presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
