Margaret “joann” Troutt, Beloved Houston Resident and Compassionate Caregiver, Passes at 78

Houston, TX – Margaret Joan Campbell Troutt, affectionately known as “JoAnn,” passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, June 26, 2025, at the age of 78. Born in Shattuck, Oklahoma, on October 11, 1946, JoAnn was the youngest child of Alvin and Edith Campbell.

JoAnn’s life was marked by a dedication to service, community, and family. Her early involvement in the International Order of the Rainbow for Girls instilled in her valuable leadership skills, public speaking abilities, and a strong sense of self-confidence, alongside cherished friendships.A proud graduate of Deer Park high School,she showcased her talents as a twirler and as the 1st chair clarinetist in the school band.

Her commitment to supporting U.S. service members began with a heartfelt pen pal correspondence that blossomed into a lifelong love story with her husband, Charles “Chuck” Troutt, whom she met while he was serving in the Navy. JoAnn’s professional life was characterized by compassion and a desire to help others. She worked in the VIP section with Astro player families at the Astrodome, advocating for future educational initiatives. After obtaining her licensure, she embarked on a fulfilling career as an X-ray technician in Pasadena and Tyler, providing comfort and care to countless children undergoing radiology treatments.

Later, JoAnn found joy in her role at J C Penney, where she advanced to management. Known for her consistently kind words, warm smile, and extraordinary ability to connect with people, she left a lasting positive impression on everyone she encountered.

Above all,JoAnn was a devoted mother to her children,Dennis and Karen,and welcomed her nephew,Larry,into their family,showering them with boundless love,guidance,and inspiration. Her greatest delight was being a grandmother to Carrie, Justin, Travis, Kayden, and Alex, with whom she shared countless adventures and a passion for learning.

JoAnn is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, Charles “Chuck” Troutt of Houston; her son, Dennis Troutt and wife, Ashley of Friendswood; her daughter, Karen DeLeon and husband, cesar of Houston; her nephew, Larry Campbell and wife, Kelly of Galveston; her grandchildren, Carrie Nentwich, Justin Troutt, Travis Troutt, Kadyen Gatlin, and Alexander Troutt; her great-nephew, Ian Campbell; and her sister, Mary Raborn and husband, Gene of Magnolia, along with several loving nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Alvin and Edith Campbell, and her brother, harold Campbell.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, july 3, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at the Callaway-Allee Memorial Chapel, officiated by Dr. Bill Jones. Visitation preceded the service at 12:00 p.m.
