Manufacturers advertise Zen 6 support for current motherboards

by Rachel Kim – Technology Editor

Manufacturers are signaling potential compatibility of ⁣upcoming Zen 6 processors with ‍existing ‍AM5 motherboards, extending ‌the platform’s lifespan. AMD has ‌confirmed⁣ continued support for⁣ the ⁤AM5 ⁢platform through at least 2027, though specific CPU generations haven’t been disclosed.‌ This announcement eases concerns about frequent motherboard ⁣upgrades and offers a longer upgrade path for current AM5 users.

The commitment to AM5 compatibility is meaningful for consumers invested‍ in the platform,as it ⁢circumvents the‌ need for new motherboard ‍purchases with each CPU generation. While a formal unveiling of ‌Zen 6 isn’t anticipated until possibly Computex 2026, with a market launch following later, ⁤AMD’s pledge ‍ensures continued innovation within ⁤the existing AM5 ecosystem.‍ New processors for AM5 are expected in 2027, but may⁣ include refreshed versions of existing‌ models.
