Manipur: Structures Pulled Down Ahead of Modi Visit

Churachandpur, manipur – Structures erected to welcome Prime Minister Narendra Modi ahead of his visit were pulled down and, in some instances, set ablaze in Churachandpur district on Thursday, September 11, 2025. The ​incidents occurred along the ‌route Mr. Modi’s‍ convoy is ‍scheduled to ⁢take from the ‌helipad and back.

The acts of vandalism took place approximately 2 kilometers from‍ the Peace Ground in Churachandpur, where the Prime Minister is slated to address a public gathering. He is also scheduled to​ speak at Kangla Fort in Imphal following the Churachandpur event.Local⁣ sources reported ⁤a brief confrontation between police and the individuals responsible ⁤before they dispersed.⁤ District officials​ were unavailable for comment.

Viral⁤ videos circulating online‌ depict miscreants dismantling roadside structures and setting some of ​them on⁤ fire. One video shows a police officer ‍observing the destruction‌ without intervening.

Kuki-Zo organizations, including the Kuki Inpi Manipur and the Imphal Hmar Displaced ‌Committee, welcomed Mr. Modi’s visit as⁤ “long overdue” but voiced opposition to a planned dance program at the official function, stating, “Our mourning is not yet⁤ over,⁤ our tears ⁢are not yet dried,​ our wounds ‍are ​not yet⁣ healed. We​ cannot dance with joy.”
