Man Arrested After Knife Attack at Hong Kong Luxury Housing Estate
Two people were hospitalized following a knife attack at the Baguio Villa luxury residential estate in Hong Kong’s Pok Fu Lam neighborhood on Monday, Aug. 10, 2026. According to local media reports, a bare-chested and barefoot 22-year-old resident left his unit at block 47 wearing only sweatpants around 9:00 a.m. and initiated a random assault outside block 43.
The Assault and Intervention
The suspect charged at a male passerby outside block 43, who narrowly dodged the strike, according to coverage by China Daily HK. The attacker then turned on a security guard and fought with him until other security staff rushed to the scene. Fleeing the initial clash, the man stabbed a passing foreign domestic helper in the back. Security guards and passersby intervened to restrain the assailant before police officers arrived.
Videos of the incident shared on Threads by user hungkwonghikaru and reported by AsiaOne showed a shirtless man in long black pants holding a small knife in his right hand while two security personnel in yellow vests stood nearby. One video captured the attacker approaching a security guard who attempted to grab the knife-wielding hand before tripping and falling. Another clip posted by Threads user anfernee1215 showed the attacker chasing a woman dressed in a white top and blue bottoms who fell as he continued his assault, while security guards and a bystander in dark clothing tried to shield her.
Injuries and Arrest
The Hong Kong Police Force received multiple reports about the incident at around 9:20 a.m., according to AsiaOne. The domestic helper suffered wounds to her neck and back, while a security guard sustained an elbow injury, as reported by The Standard. Both injured individuals were transported to the hospital for treatment.
Eyewitnesses cited by HK01 claimed the suspect is a resident of the estate and is suspected of suffering from mental health issues. Preliminary police investigations revealed that the suspect is a foreigner. Officers arrested him at the scene and took him into custody.
Police Search and Animal Welfare
During a subsequent search of the suspect’s apartment, police officers found a pet cat with an injured right ear and a cut on the side of its head. According to The Standard and China Daily HK, the animal was handed over to the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals for treatment. Investigators believe the assailant injured the cat inside his flat before leaving to attack individuals outside. Police investigations into the incident remain ongoing.
