Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Wednesday April 7, 2021. The Las Palmas de Gran Canaria International Film Festival invites families to return to theaters as a safe space in which to enjoy the experience and magic of cinema after a year in which audiovisual consumption has been carried out mainly on digital platforms.

Thus, the film event once again selects two current works for children and young people in the Magic Lantern section that, in 2021, will not mention school groups due to capacity limitations, but will include families who wish to attend with all the guarantees of security that the context requires: distances, masks and recommended protocols.

As mentioned in the edition’s catalog, Magic Lantern will feature two productions that feature a group of bears in Sicily and young music stars in Korea. With The famous invasion of bears in Sicily by Lorezo Mattotti and FROM THE BEGINNING by Shim Chanyang “You will feel the magic of cinema and the extraordinary of the event: two films that can only be seen in theaters in the framework of our 20th edition,” says programmer Saray Benítez in the text.

The films have been scheduled, in their original version with subtitles in Spanish (French for children and Korean for youth), in the morning (12 noon) of each weekend: the youth on the first Saturday and the last Sunday of the festival , April 10 and 18; the infantile the first Sunday and the last Saturday of the appointment, 11 and 17 of April. Tickets are for sale on the Cinesa website.

As described in the catalog, the little ones in the house will be able to enjoy a story based on the homonymous story by Dino Buzzati, The famous invasion of bears in Sicily. “An animated film that after its premiere in the Un Certain Regard section of the Cannes Film Festival in 2019 has been acclaimed by critics and the public, for managing to turn a story for boys and girls into a tale full of symbolism that will give food to thought also to the adult world. The bears begin an adventure in search of Tonio, the lost son of the Bear King. To find it, the bears decide to invade the world of humans … but suddenly they will see that both realities do not coexist as expected. The animated film invites us to reflect on concepts such as colonization, despotism or cultural appropriation. Undoubtedly, an opportunity to travel through visual universes full of beauty, delve into them, and rethink some issues present in our day-to-day life from a magical and stimulating perspective for the senses, ”says Benítez.

On the other hand, the young audience will have the Korean feature film FROM THE BEGINNING, the story of the young musician Tae-il, who returns to his hometown to meet up with Ji-won, a former bandmate. She is now a music teacher and supports a band training to compete in a young talent show. According to the catalog, “DA CAPO is capable of transporting to adolescence those who have already left it behind; it’s a journey back in time to those years when we thought we were rock stars and our days revolved around music. The Korean film is an ode to friendship and the uniting power of music, of art. It shows how from a creative impulse a joint catharsis can arise, even in the worst moments. With a fascinating score that goes from K-pop to the most hooligan rock, DA CAPO is a musical enjoyment, a compendium of memories of the past or recent experiences of the future stars of the house; Fun is assured”.
