Maduro Issues Direct Appeal too Trump, Mocking US Rhetoric as “Tarzanado” Amid Rising Tensions
CARACAS – Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro directly addressed US President Donald Trump on Wednesday, pleading “No crazy war, please,” and dismissing US messaging as simplistic, even “Tarzanado”-a term he jokingly described as language omitting articles, prepositions, and complex conjugations. The unusual exchange comes as both nations escalate military posturing and accusations of intervention.
The back-and-forth underscores a rapidly deteriorating relationship fueled by US efforts to oust Maduro’s government and venezuela’s deepening ties with Russia and China. Washington recently authorized covert operations against maduro, prompting Venezuela to initiate large-scale military exercises and publicly reveal its arsenal, including 5,000 Russian portable surface-to-air missiles intended to counter potential US forces. The situation raises concerns about regional stability and the potential for direct conflict in the Caribbean.
Maduro’s plea followed the activation of Venezuelan military exercises in 73 locations along the country’s coast earlier Thursday. He also highlighted Venezuela’s military capabilities, attributing them to support from allies. “Thanks to President (Vladimir) Putin, thanks to Russia, thanks to China and thanks to many friends in the world, Venezuela has the equipment to guarantee peace,” Maduro stated.
Venezuelan officials accuse the US of actively plotting to overthrow Maduro, with Minister Vladimir Padrino acknowledging the presence of the CIA within Venezuela and asserting any intervention attempt would fail. The US has not publicly confirmed the specifics of the covert operations authorized last week by President Trump.
