Diamondbacks‘ Tyler Locklear to Undergo Elbow and Shoulder Surgery
PHOENIX – Arizona Diamondbacks first baseman Tyler Locklear will undergo surgery on both his left elbow and left shoulder this month, a source confirmed Wednesday, following a collision at first base in september.
The injuries occurred during the seventh inning of a game against the Boston Red Sox on Sept. 7, when Locklear reached for an errant throw from third baseman Jordan Lawlar and collided with Red Sox runner Connor Wong. Locklear sustained a torn ligament in his left elbow and requires a labrum repair in his left shoulder. Both surgeries will be performed by dr. Keith Meister on Oct. 16.
Locklear is expected to return at some point next season, tho the Diamondbacks currently lack a definitive recovery timeline due to the unusual nature of simultaneously addressing elbow and shoulder injuries.
Acquired from the Seattle Mariners in July as part of the eugenio Suarez trade, Locklear appeared in 31 games for Arizona, hitting .175/.267/.262 with three home runs and 43 strikeouts in 116 plate appearances. He was considered a potential first base option for the 2026 season, alongside Pavin Smith and others, but his recovery timeline introduces uncertainty to those plans.
