Liverpool Lead Race for €100m RB Leipzig Star Yan Diomande

Liverpool’s pursuit of RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande is reportedly the most advanced of any Premier League club, as a scramble for the 19-year-traditional’s signature intensifies across Europe’s elite. Scouts from a host of top clubs, including Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United, Tottenham, and Newcastle United, were in Germany over the weekend to watch Diomande in action, according to TEAMtalk.

Diomande has quickly become one of the most sought-after young talents in European football, having joined Leipzig from Spanish side Leganes last summer. This season, the Ivory Coast international has scored nine goals and provided six assists, demonstrating a level of development that has surprised observers within the Red Bull organization.

Recruitment teams across Europe are conducting thorough due diligence on Diomande, acknowledging his limited experience at the highest level. Despite this, Leipzig are holding firm on their valuation of the player, dismissing suggestions that he could be available for around €50 million in early 2026. Club sources indicate a price tag of at least €100 million (£87m / $119m) would be required to even begin negotiations.

Oliver Mintzlaff, chairman of RB Leipzig’s supervisory board, has publicly stated his desire to retain Diomande’s services. “As chairman of the supervisory board, I would say he will definitely be with us next season — even if there were an offer of €80 or €90 million,” Mintzlaff said via Bulinews. He added that the club views Diomande as the most exciting talent to come through their system since Erling Haaland.

Liverpool’s interest in Diomande is seen as particularly strong, with their scouting team heavily present at Leipzig’s 2-2 draw with Wolfsburg. The winger’s ability to play off the right flank aligns with Liverpool’s long-term planning as they consider life after Mohamed Salah, according to reports. Even though, the Reds face stiff competition from Bayern Munich, who are reportedly reluctant to allow a player of Diomande’s caliber to join a Premier League rival.

While some sources have downplayed Bayern’s involvement due to the expected transfer fee, TEAMtalk reports that the German champions remain firmly in contention. Liverpool are also reportedly considering alternative attacking options, including Michael Olise, but have been informed by Bayern Munich that they will rebuff any advances for the Crystal Palace winger this summer.

Further complicating Liverpool’s transfer plans, reports from Germany suggest that Bayern Munich also retain an interest in Liverpool’s Florian Wirtz, having previously been unsuccessful in their attempt to sign him last summer. Bayern have reportedly been in contact with Wirtz’s representatives, signaling their continued interest in the player.
