Linda K. Newlon Passes Away at 82 in Washington
Linda K. Newlon, an 82-year-old resident of Washington, Iowa, passed away on Monday, September 28, 2026, at the United Presbyterian Home. Private family services will be held at Elm Grove Cemetery, alongside a public celebration of life scheduled at the United Presbyterian Home Town Center.
Life in Alaska and Return to Iowa
Born Linda K. Statler on November 28, 1943, in Washington, Iowa, to Clarence and Lucille (Kurtz) Statler, she moved with her family to Alaska at the age of five. She graduated from East Anchorage High School in 1962 and married Ron Newlon on June 12, 1964, in Alaska. While her husband worked in the oil fields, Newlon raised their sons as a stay-at-home mother before later working as a medical receptionist. The couple relocated back to Iowa in 1995. Upon her return, Newlon worked at the McCleery Cumming Calendar Factory and later at the Washington County Recorder’s Office until her retirement.
Newlon Volunteered and Established Memorial Funds
Newlon accumulated more than 10 years of volunteer service at the hospital gift shop and maintained active memberships in T.T.T., the Red Hat Society, and the Martha Washington Questers. She enjoyed gardening, reading, and seasonal decorating, and spent many years wintering with her husband in Mesa, Arizona. Newlon Is Survived by Sons and Sisters
Preceded in death by her parents and her husband Ron in 2025, Newlon is survived by her sons David Newlon of Anchorage, Alaska, and Matthew (Hayley) Newlon of Iowa City, Iowa, as well as her sisters Martha (Gary) Russell of Washington, Iowa, and Patricia (Henry) Coleman of Anchorage, Alaska. A celebration of her life is set for Saturday, October 10, 2026, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at the United Presbyterian Home Town Center.
