Noah centineo in Talks to Star Alongside Sydney Sweeney in Live-Action ‘Gundam’ Movie
Actor Noah Centineo, known for his roles in Black Adam and the upcoming Street Fighter film, is reportedly in discussions to join Legendary Pictures’ live-action adaptation of the iconic Japanese anime Mobile Suit Gundam. This potential casting adds another key player to the project, which already stars Sydney Sweeney in a lead role.
Legendary Pictures has been developing a gundam film for some time, aiming to bring the sprawling sci-fi universe to a wider audience. The project, written and directed by Jim Mickle (Sweet Tooth),has been shrouded in secrecy regarding its plot. Though, details suggest the film may draw inspiration from The 08th MS Team, focusing on a conflict between pilots from the Earth Federation and the principality of Zeon who develop a connection amidst war.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Legendary is being cautious with casting announcements “for sensitivity reasons,” having previously considered Queer star Drew Starkey for the role now being discussed with Centineo. Sweeney is reportedly “very much involved” in selecting her co-lead, as the characters are intended to be on opposing sides of a planetary conflict.
The Gundam franchise, created by Yoshiyuki Tomino, debuted in 1979 and has as spawned numerous television series, films, manga, and model kits, becoming a cultural phenomenon in Japan and gaining a dedicated international fanbase. The live-action film represents a meaningful attempt to translate the complex world of giant robots and political intrigue to the big screen.
