Lee Jun-ho Returns with “Typhoon Boss,” Following Successes in “Red sleeves” and “King the Land”
Lee Jun-ho is set to return to television with the new tvN drama “Typhoon Boss” (also known as “Sergeant Typhoon”), premiering on november 11th at 9:10 PM. The series, planned by Studio Dragon and produced by imagineers, Studio PIC and Tree Studio, tells the story of Kang Tae-poong, a novice trader who rises to become the president of a trading company during the 1997 IMF crisis in South Korea.
Earlier teasers have highlighted Lee Jun-ho’s transformation for the role, showcasing his portrayal of a character evolving from a free-spirited individual in Apgujeong to a determined CEO fighting to protect his company.
This latest role follows a string of successful performances that have solidified Lee Jun-ho’s position as a leading actor. In 2021,he captivated audiences with his portrayal of King Jeongjo Lee San in MBC’s historical drama “Red Sleeves.” The series achieved a peak viewership rating of 17.4%, with Lee Jun-ho praised for his nuanced depiction of the monarch’s burdens and inner character.
He further cemented his popularity with the 2023 JTBC romantic comedy “King the Land.” The drama recorded double-digit viewership ratings and topped Netflix’s global TOP 10 TV category (non-English), demonstrating its international appeal. Lee Jun-ho’s performance as a prickly character navigating love and personal growth was central to the show’s success.
For “Typhoon Boss,” Lee Jun-ho has fully immersed himself in the 1990s setting, recreating the era’s visuals with details like “bridge hair” and colorful leather costumes.He reportedly researched footage from the period and even purchased costumes personally to authentically portray a youth of that time.
Lee Jun-ho stated that beyond the visual recreation, his primary goal was “to express the spirit of the era when we overcame the crisis together without giving in.” He intends to portray the character’s growth from immaturity to leadership with depth and sincerity.
