Bloober Team today announced Layers of Fear 3, returning to the psychological horror franchise that helped establish the Polish studio’s reputation, rather than pursuing further remakes. The announcement followed weeks of a cryptic countdown and speculation that Bloober Team might reveal another remake project, potentially related to the Silent Hill series, given the studio’s recent success with the Silent Hill 2 remake.
The reveal came as part of a “10th Anniversary of Layers of Fear” event, unexpectedly incorporating a trailer for the new installment, titled “The Sick Rose.” The trailer’s title references the poem of the same name by William Blake, with lines from the poem recited by an actor within the trailer. Bloober Team had previously shared the poem on its website, sparking initial fan theories about a possible remake of the survival horror game Rule of Rose, due to the rose imagery. However, the studio clarified that the countdown was not connected to any remake projects.
The “Sick Rose” trailer features a gentleman and various visual motifs, including a foreboding red hourglass. The significance of these elements to the narrative or visual style of Layers of Fear 3 remains unclear. However, the trailer does include graphical elements and logos from the series’ first two installments, signaling a connection to the established Layers of Fear universe.
The video concluded with the phrase “The doors will not stay closed,” while the tagline for Layers of Fear 3 quotes two lines from Blake’s poem: “Some things never leave the walls, they just learn to wait.” Fans have already begun theorizing about the meaning of these phrases, but Bloober Team’s intentions remain ambiguous.
Bloober Team currently has multiple projects in development, including a remake of the original Silent Hill, a Switch 2 exclusive titled “Project M,” a collaborative project called “Project F,” and now, Layers of Fear 3. The studio’s recent update to Cronos: The New Dawn adds to a growing list of anticipated titles for fans of psychological and survival horror.
