Lausanne Stops Losing Streak in Hard-Fought Draw with Lugano
Lugano, Switzerland – Lausanne ended a frustrating four-game losing run in the Swiss Super League, securing a 1-1 draw against a similarly struggling Lugano side on Sunday. The result provides a much-needed boost for Lausanne, while Lugano will be left to rue missed opportunities and a controversial late-game decision.
The match got off to a difficult start for Lausanne, with Lugano taking the lead in the 13th minute through Behrens. The early setback was compounded just a minute later when Lausanne midfielder Jamie Roche was forced to leave the pitch due to injury.
Though, Lausanne emerged from the halftime break with renewed determination. Peter zeidler’s side found an equalizer in the 51st minute, courtesy of a breakthrough goal from 20-year-old Beyatt Lekoueiry. The Mauritanian youngster, who joined Lausanne in February, marked his first Super League appearance with a crucial goal.
lugano Protest Over Disallowed Red Card
The closing stages of the match were marred by controversy, according to reports from Blue. Lugano players vehemently protested a decision to overturn a red card shown to Karim Sow after receiving a second yellow card in the 67th minute. The Ticino club reportedly argued that the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) should not have intervened to rescind the yellow card, believing the initial decision should have stood.
