Changes in the name of the competition also occurred for League 2 which changed to the Championship Pegadaian. While the level of semi-professional level competition will still be titled League Nusantara.
“Starting this season we have made a rebranding LIB (the new Indonesian League). The entity is LIB, but the brand is I-League (no longer LIB). BRI Super League for League 1 and the Championship Pegadaian for League 2,” said President Director of PT LIB Ferry Paulus when giving information.
Actually the term Super League or Super League is not new in Indonesian football. The Indonesia Super League (ISL) was the name of the competition for eight seasons in 2008 to 2015.
Then the name of the competition changed to League 1 starting in the 2017 season after the Indonesian competition was running again. The official competition had a break because of FIFA banned for Indonesian football in 2015 so that Indonesia had a league without league in 2015 and 2016.
After the League 1 era runs for eight seasons, the competition operator then chose to change the name of the competition again. This is the third substitution in the professional era, namely the Indonesian League (1994 – 2007/08), ISL (2008 – 2015), League 1 (2017 – 2024/25), Super League (2025-).
