Latvian Women’s Basketball EC Qualification Schedule & Teams

Latvian‌ Women’s Basketball Team to Begin EuroBasket 2027 Qualification Campaign in November

riga – The Latvian Women’s Basketball team’s schedule for the first round of qualification for the 2027 ⁣European Championship (EC) has been‍ announced by the Latvian ​Basketball Union ⁢(LBS). The team will face Slovenia, the Netherlands, and Estonia in a group stage that begins this November.

This ⁤qualification process is crucial for‍ Latvia to secure a spot in the 2027 EuroBasket tournament. Currently ranked 37th in the world by FIBA,Latvia will compete against Slovenia⁤ (23rd globally,11th in Europe),the Netherlands ⁣(56th,26th),and Estonia (71st,33rd) ⁢for one of the coveted qualifying positions. The top ⁤two teams from each⁤ group, plus three of ⁢the seven best third-place finishers, will‌ advance to the next round.

The first round⁣ schedule is as follows: November 12th⁢ against⁢ slovenia in ⁣Ljubljana, November 15th against the Netherlands ⁢in Riga, ‌and November 18th against Estonia in Riga. The second round will see Latvia host Slovenia on March 11th, travel to ‍the netherlands on March‍ 14th, and play Estonia on March 17th.

Head coach Matīss Rožlapa will ‌lead the team, supported by assistant coaches​ Kaspars Mājenieks, Rudolfs Rozītis, and ⁢Ilze Ose-Hlebovicka. The candidate roster will be published on october 20th, with preparations for the initial⁤ games beginning november 9th⁢ in‌ Slovenia.

A total of 27 teams are participating in the first round, divided into six groups of four and one group of three. Eight teams – Belgium, Spain, Italy, ​France, Czech Republic, Germany, Turkey, and Hungary – have‍ been exempted from this initial stage due to their participation in the 2026 World Cup qualifying tournament. Lithuania, Finland, and Sweden, along with host nation⁤ Belgium, have already ⁤secured places among the top 16 teams for the 2027 finals.

The second stage of qualification will take place during the 2026/2027 season, between November 8-18​ and February 7-17. These 24 teams will be divided into six groups, with the top two from each group advancing to the‍ final tournament.
