Lara Croft, Crash & Resident Evil: Retro 3D Animation Mashup

A short, fan-made animation showcasing characters from Tomb Raider, Resident Evil and Crash Bandicoot in a PlayStation 1-style aesthetic has gained attention online. Created by 3D artist suitNtie, the animation depicts a brief encounter between Lara Croft and Crash Bandicoot, sparked by Croft’s observation of Bandicoot consuming herbs.

The animation, shared on platforms including X/Twitter and Facebook, utilizes the low-polygon visual style characteristic of early PlayStation games. According to suitNtie, the scene originated from a thought experiment: imagining Lara Croft questioning Crash Bandicoot’s habit of eating herbs. The resulting animation features both Lara Croft and the Resident Evil character Nemesis.

suitNtie, who is also involved in the development of the billiard game Wizard Pool, crafted the animation as a homage to classic retro titles. The artist’s work has resonated with fans of the featured franchises, evoking nostalgia for the gaming era of the late 1990s.

The popularity of these characters extends beyond their original game releases. Tomb Raider’s Lara Croft, in particular, has become a cultural icon, frequently appearing in other media. A promotional image for the game Croc: Legend of the Gobbos, for example, featured visual references to Lara Croft’s weaponry alongside elements from Crash Bandicoot and Super Mario Bros.

Interest in the design history of these characters has also resurfaced recently. Reports indicate that Lara Croft nearly underwent a redesign to soften her appearance, mirroring similar adjustments made to Crash Bandicoot and Spyro the Dragon for the Japanese market.
