Lady Gaga to Receive MTV Video Vanguard Award, Perform at 2025 VMAs
lady Gaga will be honored with the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award and perform at the 2025 MTV Video Music Awards, MTV announced today. The ceremony will take place on Sunday, September 7, at UBS Arena in Elmont, New York.
This recognition celebrates Gaga’s significant and lasting impact on music video artistry and popular culture. A multi-faceted performer known for her innovative visuals and boundary-pushing creativity, Gaga joins an elite group of artists-including Madonna, Beyoncé, and David Bowie-who have received the prestigious award. Her performance at the VMAs marks a return to the stage where she delivered a career-defining rendition of “Paparazzi” in 2009, and a follow-up appearance alongside Ariana Grande in 2020.
gaga currently leads all nominees with 12 VMA nominations this year, including bids for Best Artist, Video of the Year, and Song of the Year for her collaboration with Bruno Mars, “Die With a Smile.” The announcement comes amidst a busy year for the artist, who recently released her album Mayhem in March.Since the album’s release,Gaga has showcased her versatility by hosting and performing on Saturday Night Live and headlining the opening night of Coachella 2025. She is currently on the Mayhem Ball Tour, which will continue across North America and Europe through December.
