Author Jonathan Van Meter shared details of the incident with The Hollywood Reporter, explaining that Kim Kardashian called him months ago to recount her mother’s reaction. Before that call, Kim had visited her sister Khloé Kardashian, who detailed how fiercely Kris had reacted to the biographical chapter while cameras rolled. “Why did Kim involve us all in this? Why is my affair from 30 years ago in that book?” Kris shouted, according to the accounts provided to the author.
Days after the outburst, Kris calmed down, and the footage of her reaction will appear in the reality series. Kim defended the inclusion of the material to her mother. Van Meter has not yet revealed which man is identified in the chapter covering the affair. Kris previously acknowledged publicly that she had an affair lasting several months in 1989 while married to Robert Kardashian, meaning the relationship was already a matter of public record before the publication of Citizen Kim.

Kris and Robert Kardashian were married from 1978 until 1991 and share four children: Kourtney, Kim, Khloé, and Rob. Robert Kardashian died in September 2003 from esophageal cancer.
