Trick Williams Challenges Sami Zayn for Undisputed WWE Championship on SmackDown
Trick Williams is challenging Sami Zayn for the Undisputed WWE Championship on the October 30 episode of Friday Night SmackDown, WWE announced. The matchup follows a confrontational segment on the Oct. 2 episode of SmackDown where Williams stood across the ring from Undisputed WWE Champion Sami Zayn, with Gunther, Finn Bálor, Penta, and Je’Von Evans also lining up for a title shot.
Two Prior Defeats Shape The Championship Match
The upcoming title bout carries a distinct historical weight because Williams holds two previous wins over Zayn in 2026. Their rivalry began on January 2 when Williams made his first appearance on SmackDown and confronted Zayn. Later that month, a victory over Matt Cardona secured Williams a spot in a fatal four-way match at Saturday Night’s Main Event on January 24, which Zayn won.
At WrestleMania 42, Williams defeated Zayn to capture the United States Championship during his first WrestleMania appearance. Lil Yachty interfered at ringside during a crucial moment before a Trick Shot secured the pinfall. They met again on May 9 at Backlash, where Yachty distracted the referee and struck Zayn with a kendo stick, allowing Williams to hit another Trick Shot and retain the title.
Zayn Climbs Back to the Top Title
Zayn captured the Undisputed WWE Championship on June 27 at Night of Champions in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, defeating Cody Rhodes and Gunther in a triple threat match to secure his first world championship in the company. That victory also made him the first Arab and Syrian wrestler to hold a world title in WWE. CM Punk subsequently won the belt on July 6 during an episode of Raw in Rosemont, Illinois.
Zayn turned heel on the August 21 episode of SmackDown by attacking Kevin Owens and Punk during their title match. Johnny Gargano and Candice LeRae became involved in a September 11 title match, where Zayn reclaimed the championship with a Helluva Kick after the Prizefighter accidentally struck the reigning champion with the belt.
Williams enters this title match following a separate run with the United States Championship, which he lost to Baron Corbin before reclaiming it at Sunday Night’s Main Event on September 6. With the October 30 SmackDown card finalized, Williams gets his first opportunity at Zayn’s current world title reign.
